Autogas is the Future of North America

I was recently invited to participate in a panel discussion titled “Autogas is the Future of North America.” The discussion will take place at the World Liquid Propane Gas Association (WLPGA)’s North American – European Summit in Washington, D.C. on February 9th.

I’m excited for a few reasons:

North America, with its 100+ year automotive history, is in the midst of a significant escalation of alternative transportation fuel deployment. Europe was forced to adopt alternative transportation fuels about 60 years ago due to the high price of gasoline and its limited availability. We can match their adoption trends.

  1. As our deployment curve takes shape here in North America, ROUSH CleanTech has developed a sophisticated service network and continues to refine the available technology. And, our friends at FerrellAutogas and Heritage Propane have developed excellent infrastructure solutions for our fleet customers. When we add it all up, there’s an environmental and financial equation that makes sense for North American fleet operators. So, we look to compare notes with the European representatives who have reached a successful level of propane autogas deployment and how these key variables played into their success.
  2. Propane autogas is one of those fuels that’s more than a theory. It’s more than a “right here, right now” alternative fuel. It’s more of a “been there, proven that, here’s-my-tee-shirt-from-Korea/Australia/Europe/India/Iran – would-you-like-an-extra-because-I-have-several” type of fuel. Our friends in other parts of the world have proven it to be a viable and successful alternative to gasoline and certainly to diesel.  There are 14 million vehicles operating on propane autogas worldwide. That’s 14,000,000 – and growing.

So, I’m excited because we are leading the way with respect to deployment in North America. ROUSH CleanTech has its arms firmly around service networks, product reliability, product affordability, messaging, and branding. With all the keys to success in place, it’s time to compare notes with our friends from across the pond to ensure that North America is not the last to the party, in terms of global autogas product adoption.
