Last week at ACT Expo, I was honored to announce our newest clean-energy technology advancement — our first fully electric vehicle. It is an opportune time as diesel prices are up 54 cent a gallon year over year reaching levels we have not seen in years. Couple this with unprecedented levels of funding and incentives and the increased cost and complexity of diesel engines, and it is clear to most fleets that a non-diesel alternative is a must have.
Over the past 10 years, we’ve spent almost $50 million developing a robust foundation in the clean-tech space consisting of design, manufacturing, sales, marketing, public relations and customer success. These functions help deliver on the promise to our customers — a premium experience that delivers the best total cost of ownership.
Our technology supports more than 1,200 customers in the student transportation, food and beverage, public transit, energy, government, airport and linen / textile segments. This equates to more than 18,000 vehicles and over 500 million miles of data from our customers. We continue to champion propane autogas and compressed natural gas as these domestic, clean and lower-cost fuels are keys to reducing our nation’s dependence on foreign energy sources.
To start, we will be offering Class 6-7 electric vehicles. Customers who operate larger (up to 33,000 GVWR) trucks and buses need a robust and reliable zero-emission solution to diesel that is not present today. As the market evolves, we also plan to offer this scalable technology in our Class 4-5 trucks and buses.
As one of only a handful of Ford’s Qualified Vehicle Modifiers, ROUSH CleanTech has a long and successful partnership with Ford. We are already participating in Ford’s eQVM process to become an Advanced Fuel Qualified Vehicle Modifier for electrified powertrains for commercial vehicles.
