Autogas: The Hit Topic at STN
Dear Friends of ROUSH CleanTech,
The School Transportation News Expo is the biggest show we attend to feature our propane autogas fuel systems for Blue Bird school buses. This year, the interest in alternative fuels was at an all-time high.
We spoke to dozens of school district representatives who said they have at least considered alt fuels, including propane autogas. Here are their top reasons why:
Lower fuel cost. With an across-the-board tightening of school budgets, the low cost of autogas is top of mind. On average, autogas is up to 50 percent cheaper than conventional diesel. For example, Hall County Schools in Georgia reports $123,000 in fuel cost savings over a six-month period with their Blue Bird Propane Visions. Plus, by contracting with a local propane provider, school district reps realize that they can lock in fuel prices.
Reduced harmful emissions. Lowering a school district’s carbon footprint and cleaning up the air is a main catalyst for moving away from diesel. Vehicles fueled by propane autogas emit 80 percent fewer smog-producing hydrocarbons and virtually eliminate particulate matter when compared to diesel.
Since 2012, we have partnered with Blue Bird to deploy more than 5,500 Blue Bird Propane Visions. These clean-burning buses have travelled over 57 million miles in more than 400 school districts across the country, including Florida’s Broward County Schools, Alabama’s Mobile County Public Schools and Boston Public Schools.
Is there a neighboring school district running propane autogas? Give them a call to see how it’s working out for them. Or, call us at 800.59.ROUSH and we can help answer your questions.
We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer, and look forward to seeing you on a tour of ROUSH CleanTech or Blue Bird in the near future.
Sincerely,
Todd Mouw
