When it comes to green, efficient school buses, the metro’s fleet has some bragging rights. As far as pilot programs go, the one this past year to test one propane-fueled school bus in Crittenden County Schools was so successful, the district now has seven of them out of a fleet of 35. And the Kentucky Department of Education now is allowing any district in the state to operate them. The new school year is underway. Buses powered by ROUSH CleanTech propane autogas fuel systems are being deployed in many new markets. Just last week, Mobile County Public Schools unveiled their new fleet of 30 autogas school buses at a key handoff ceremony. Mobile joins other school districts and private and public fleets across the country implementing ROUSH CleanTech propane autogas powered vehicles.

The Mobile County school system has purchased 30 buses that will use propane autogas instead of diesel fuel. Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey joined school officials Thursday morning for a media conference on the new buses, which will reduce the system’s fuel and maintenance costs, according to information from the school system.
