It’s not just the kids who get to show off new stuff the first day of school. Southland Transportation and the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) rolled out their fleet of 90 new propane buses to mark the first day of school on Tuesday. When it comes to green, efficient school buses, the metro’s fleet has some bragging rights. Student Transportation of America said it has the biggest fleet of propane buses in the world, and they’re not done yet. “I run 444 propane buses, and I have 91 diesel,” said Brian Urwin, who manages maintenance for Student Transportation of America… (KETV Omaha)
As far as pilot programs go, the one this past year to test one propane-fueled school bus in Crittenden County Schools was so successful, the district now has seven of them out of a fleet of 35. And the Kentucky Department of Education now is allowing any district in the state to operate them.
