Flint Mass Transportation Authority Rolls Out First 50 ROUSH CleanTech Propane Autogas Vehicles
September 13, 2011 — An alternative-fueled paratransit shuttle is scheduled to hit the streets of Michigan’s City of Flint aimed at reducing harmful emissions left behind by gasoline-fueled vehicles. Built on a Ford E-450 chassis by ROUSH CleanTech, the shuttle has a 6.8-liter, V10 engine and a 41-gallon propane fuel tank. A second propane autogas vehicle has already hit the streets, serving the city and Genesee County. With the help of a $5 million federal grant, Flint MTA plans to add at least 48 more 16-passenger propane autogas shuttles to its fleet by early 2012.
“Propane autogas is a good fit for Flint Mass Transportation Authority,” said Edgar Benning, general manager of Flint MTA. “We anticipate purchasing propane fuel for half the price of diesel. It will reduce our dependency on diesel and drive down our cost of operation.”
