Are Alt Fuels Dead?

Dear Friends of ROUSH CleanTech,

A lot of people have been asking if alternative fuels are dead because of the recent low gasoline prices. My answer? Absolutely not.

Organizations in every industry are always looking to stay ahead of the competition. One way is to explore innovative and advanced technologies in alternative fuel vehicles that will reduce costs over the lifetime of the vehicle.

This was evident at the NTEA Work Truck Show last week. Hundreds of attendees stopped by our booth, came to our autogas session or test-drove our vehicle. These folks represented industries like tree care, government, food and beverage, and much more.

Propane autogas is ideal for all fleets, no matter the size, application or location, because it is a versatile and clean-operating fuel. It provides a smart return on investment and is domestically produced.

For instance, Flint Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) operates over 70 paratransit buses fueled by autogas to provide clean and affordable transportation for its community.

Why propane? The Flint MTA chose this alt fuel to:

  • Save money.Their paratransit shuttles cost less per mile than diesel or gasoline equivalents. After a 50 cent per gallon rebate, the cost is 15 cents per mile for autogas. That is compared to diesel that costs 35 cents per mile and gasoline that costs 46 cents.
  • Lock in fuel prices. Flint MTA locked in their cost per gallon of propane for one year. Currently, they are paying $1.349 per gallon — which is still significantly less than average gasoline and diesel prices.

Your organization has its own unique reasons for adding alternative fuel vehicles. Don’t let the current cost of gasoline delay your decision. Call us today at 800.59.ROUSH to find out how autogas can fit seamlessly into your fleet.

Sincerely,

Todd Mouw
